Mental health has been a constant critical concern that affects immigrants in Baltimore. The lack of bilingual therapists and access to health insurance are two of the main barriers preventing Latinos from receiving appropriate assistance. Centro SOL offers three programs that have become the cornerstone for mental health support in the Southeast area of Baltimore.
Our Suicide Prevention Program serves to inform the Latino community about stress reduction and provide resources focused on suicide prevention by meeting once a month.
Testimonios is a community-based support group for Latino adults offered in Spanish. The meetings provide a safe place to share experiences, identify sources of strength, and promote culturally-appropriate approaches for stress reduction.
Teen Testimonios is a school-based intervention to address stressors and post-traumatic stress symptoms for newly arrived youth. The intervention is offered during the school year and expanded for the summer months offering language training, coping skills reinforcement and entertaining activities.
