Our friend Daicy, who liked us on social media, is the winner of the raffle basket of healthy foods. This prize was raffled among all the new friends who joined the Centro SOL team during the heart month
Daicy, from Ecuador, is a mother of two, she and her family live in the greektown area in front of the hospital at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Challenges like affordability, and language, and mix immigrant status at home, make very difficult for these families to access healthcare resources. Centro SOL in collaboration with local organizations, and Johns Hopkins bases groups like Bienestar, is working on providing preventive services to families like Daicy’s. Currently, the Diabetes Prevention Program a component under the Emabajadores de Salud (Health Ambassadors) program (launched in 2013), was launched at John Ruhrah Elementary/Middle school entirely in Spanish.
